The California Central Coast Language Diversity Project examines the various dialects of English spoken by ethnic and geographic communities along the central coast. This project analyzes speakers from the following geographic regions: San Luis Obispo, the Coast, Northern and Eastern San Luis Obispo County, and Northern Santa Barbara County. Additionally, speakers from the following ethnic groups are considered: Hispanic American, Asian American, and Native American.

Each community can be explored by clicking on the shaded area of the map. The speech communities are described and illustrated with text and video. Along with the introductory page that includes a summary of the linguistic features of a particular speech community, a glossary is included to explain linguistic terms for the reader.

This ongoing project considers speakers who have lived on the central coast of California throughout most of their lives. The CCCDP is a collaboration between English Linguistics classes and the Kennedy Library at Cal Poly. Please feel free to send comments to Professor John Battenburg at jbattenb@calpoly.edu.
